LEGAL AREA

Legislation for Nuclear Weapons

Framework:

The “Legal Area” will work within the frame of the International Forum for the Nuclear World Disarmament (IFNWD) whose interest is to appeal to the society from universities and investigation centres warning on the danger represented by nuclear weapons and on its consequences in politics, in the economy and in the international relationships.

A greater danger can be added to the well-known threats of these weapons. Nuclear weapons are about to become not only dissuasive elements in conflicts but also real weapons to use at the governments own will. The biggest World Powers are considering this possibility nowadays. If this possibility turns into reality, we’ll face an unimaginable worldwide catastrophe.

Objective:

To declare all the nuclear weapons illegal so that they are internationally prohibited and their use prosecuted and considered a crime against humanity. This action will be endorsed by jurists of recognized international prestige and is to be included in the International Humanitarian Law.

To study, to interchange and to debate about:

- International current legislation covering nuclear and mass destruction weapons.
- National legislations about the same.
- International agreements about nuclear weapons.
- Initiatives about declaring nuclear weapons illegal
- Developing a document to explain the illegality of nuclear weapons, its research, production, trade, storage, and transport.

Participants:
Lawyers and specialists interested in the aims of this area of work.
